The Land of the Masai – Tanzania

Off Beat Roads is proud to offer you a route that no other company offers. We avoid the main tourist sites except for Ngorongoro Crater and take you to the more remote Natioanl Parks of Mikumi and Selous. Just as specatacular without the 100 or so other jeeps/tours.

We offer you a spectacular visual ride on roads that crave to be explored and experienced. Roads that take you into real Africa, real Tanzania.

We offer you roads with no to few cars so you can hear, smell and taste what you ride through.

The Route

Off Beat Roads has chosen the most stunning and peaceful route possible in this marvellous African country.

Some days we pass by the magnificent Baobab Trees which are up to 4,000 years old while other days are spent intermingling with the Masai tribes. We stop to enjoy several villages tucked within the jungle and take you one two incredible safaris where you’ll witness a wide assortment of game life.

Our ride starts in the charming town of Arusha – the hub for all adventure seekers heading to the Serengeti, Kilimanjaro and deeper Tanzania. After enjoying a night of great food in Arusha we start heading directly towards Moshi and Kilimanjaro where we turn to ride with Kili's slopes and peak always on your shoulder. After a short ride along its base we turn back towards Mnt Meru but this time to its more remote backside. The side that tourists do not go, the side where its lava flowed, the side where Masai tribes farm on remote lands. The more adventureous and real side. A great afternoons riding.

Passing through a few villages on the way we stay on a Masai elders land a few KM's from Meru's base, Kili directly behind us. With a spectacular sunset some Masai can be found dancing and singing and chatting in our camp site.

Morning sunrise we head through the lush base of Meru and back oto paved road and camp at Mesarani Snake Park where a bar, cold beers and shower await. We are there to witness the feeding of some of Africas wildest and deadliest snakes.

Next 2 days are paved as we head to Ngorngoro Crater where we will camp on the craters edge. This Crater we affectionally call the Garden of Eden

Beyond spectacular camp site and view as we look down and see the tiny specs of massive heards within.

Sunrise and a day off for a jeep tour and pretty much all of Africas animals within.

Afternoon drive to Bonga for camping and next day drive to Dodoma where we stay in this cities historic newly revamped railway station hotel. Swimming pool and more. Close to local markets and enjoy the vibe of this city. Not nearly the hustle and bustle of Arusha.

Two days cycling on dirt remote road brings us to Iringa where we stay for the nite. Back on paved for an almost 100km downhill.

Most of this 100km day is downhill through the incredible Baobab Valley. This valley is enshrined with 1,000's of these ancient, magnificent trees. Camping on a river with a fabulous bar on the rivers edge and showers, we sit into the nite listening to the Hippos grunt/sing.

Short ride to Mikumi National Parks border we we do a game drive through it and arrive in Mgorogoro for nites rest.

The next 2 days is wonderous African riding on a remote dirt road into the remote Selous Reserve, a World Heritage park. Remote villages, markets, mountain views, canopy forest and appearances of the rare Colobus monkees.

Water Safari is done within the park and another camp site, waters edge bar on the far side of this park. Wild dogs are a rarity in most of Africa but this park is full of them. A rare treat most tourists never see.

Our tour ends here on these shores with a typical Africa river sunset and hippos grunting.

A 1 1/2 day drive back to Arusha[option to fly out at your expense] with an overnight stay in huts on the shores of the ocean outside Dar Salam
