How many times on vacation you have thought ‘Oh shit!!! Why didn’t I pack that thing’ and trust me you are worried about that thing because it might be required during that moment, there will be other things which you wouldn’t have packed, and you would not even realise because it is not needed during that time. Planning for a trip can get chaotic especially if you are making a long trip.
To help lessen much anxiety and last minute running around, I have put down a checklist, which will be useful
The first thing is to have your tickets in place, without which it will be slightly difficult to reach your destination.
Take a printout of your tickets (Air/Train/Bus)
Photocopy of your passport / ID proof (along with the original)
Printout of the final itinerary
Ensure that you have the map of the place along with important phone numbers
A small backpack which can carry your essentials during sightseeing.
Chargers for the mobile phone. It would help if you took power banks.
Ideally, carry multi-plug and universal socket
A diary and pen (my favourite)
If you wear spectacles, then carry one backup.
Take a torch with fully loaded batteries (most of the time people carry the torch, and when they have to use it they realise there is no battery)
Swiss Knife. It is handy for multiple purposes. Please check-it in while taking the flight do not carry in your hand baggage. I have seen a lot of them do that and later they have to leave the Swiss Knife at the airport, and that is very painful
Ziplock bags are handy at times; keep a couple in your bag.
Water bottle. Get the collapsible ones they also help in saving space while packing, and you can carry it with you anywhere and when required fill water and drink. I find the best use of it at the airports. While clearing the security they do not allow filled water bottles, so carry this collapsible one and when you are on the other side you get free water, fill it up in the bottle and keep drinking.
Hand sanitizers. If you are fussed about it, just to give you a notion of having clean hands. I still believe in washing hands.
Some quick bites like chocolates, dry fruits, etc. it helps in killing hunger pangs
One medical kit is essential, ensure that you also know how to use the various things in the medical kit. Along with the kit take any prescribed medicines.
Don’t forget to add medicines like:
Paracetamol for fever
Avomine for motion sickness
Zinetac for acidity
Tablets to prevent loose motion
Vicks or D-cold
Pain relief spray
It would help if you had your toiletries packed in another pouch which could comprise of the following:
Toothbrush & Toothpaste
Soap, face wash, deo or perfume
Shampoo. You can carry small sachets as compared to the big bottles
Sanitary pads (for females)
Besides this, you will have your regular clothes, etc. This list is a quick reference for the basic things that you generally require during the trips.
What are some things you would like to add to the list?
