When you have the whole two days with your kids the biggest challenge is how to make the most of it. Staying at home results in sleeping, watching TV and generally wasting time. But to make the days memorable with some quality time you can do the following:
Explore your city
Interestingly I have come across people who have lived all their lives in Mumbai but have not explored the city. They have never been to places like Chor Bazaar, Dhobi Ghat, Sweri Jetty, Banganga, Kotachiwadi, RBI museum, Navy Museum, Dharavi, Bhaucha Dhakka, etc. These are some of the real places where you need to go if you want to see the real face of Mumbai. Spending the weekend with your kids like a tourist exploring these places will be a time well spent. It will not only be fun for you and kids but also good learning. Your kids will talk about these experiences and will have a different way of imagining and looking at things.
Camping with kids
Another option is to take your kids and drive out of the city to a campsite. There are kid-friendly sites around Mumbai where you can enjoy some quality time with your kids. You can play games, start a bonfire, sing songs, see the starts up in the sky, sleep in the tents and wake-up to a beautiful sunrise with your kids. Most of the father’s I know do take this opportunity to show off their skills (however bad they might be) to their skills, like making a bonfire, singing songs, putting a potato in the bonfire and later eating it with butter, etc. Overall the weekend will be blissful with your child.
Volunteer
While a free weekend is a chance to head out with your child, it could also be a time to teach your child some gratitude by practically doing it. Plan in advance for your free weekend, find a place where you can do some volunteering work with your child. Doing volunteering work together with has a huge impact on your child’s development and overall personality. It is one of those things that money can’t buy.
Trek
Weekends are a wonderful time to connect with nature. Now as the monsoon sets in the climate will be perfect for a parent-child trek. There are plenty of safe trekking places around the city where you can go with your child. Trekking and exploring nature is a great way to spend your free time it gives your child the undivided attention and love, which you are not able to give due to your hectic working hours. And the best part is most of the time you will not have a network here so besides clicking pictures with your child your phone won’t be used much.
These are some of the things that you can do over a weekend with your kids. Remember no matter where you decide to go, always give your 100% to your kid, keep the smartphones away and be present for your kid. And the same is true if you are simply relaxing at home with your kid.
