Travel is opening up like the moon peeking through the clouds at night. Even though it is bleak, still it is a ray of hope. There is this urge to unshackle and escape the couch. With uncertainties still looming flying to the various destination will be reduced to a great extent and local journeys will be embraced. There will be a surge in road trips – Drivecations.
Drivecations will be done with utmost precaution, in fact, this will be a phase where travellers will upgrade themselves to be a more responsible traveller – well, their life is also at stake.
I recently took a Drivecations during the pandemic and here are my learnings which might benefit you for a safe trip.
There is a lot of beautiful destination within 4-5 hours driving from your city. Once the destination is locked, find out which is the shortest route with minimum stoppage that can get you to the destination.
This place is simply amazing, 10 people can easily chill here and the whole villa with pool is for you.
Before starting get your tank empty and the fuel tank full to avoid stopping at a fuel station. But for some reason, you have to fill on the way, avoid transacting via cash. Use UPI, Paytm or you can try out fastlane (this is the latest in contactless fuelling) to make the payment. There will be toll booths on the way, so be smart and pay smart. The idea is to minimise contact with strangers.
Since it is going to be a 4-5 hour drive, one is bound to feel snacky. For those times pack sandwiches, snacks, energy bars and some juices.
Get great music – road trip gets into a new gear with the right music.
Put together an emergency kit before you start, it could include sanitizers, gloves, first aid kit, drinking water, medicines as required, torch with batteries in working conditions, umbrella it comes in handy, paper towels, shovel in case you run over someone and of course phone chargers without it we all might as well not go. All these items might not be applicable to everyone but use your discretion while packing.
In spite of trying our best, there will be one smart ass who would have forgotten to empty their tank and would like to have a loo break. For such moments stop at a hygienic looking place, try not to touch things as much as possible. Don’t forget your mask and gloves before stepping out of the vehicle. When you are done wash your hands well with soap and then for peace of mind use hand sanitizer.
Once you reach the destination, try to be in your villa and enjoy the property. Spend quality time in harmony with nature, play games, pranks, enjoy the pool and have meals together with a great view.
Somehow wine always tastes better by the poolside. Wonder Why?
And always remember the world is waiting for you, let not the pandemic stop you. Go Safe, Move Safe, Stay Safe, Leave Safe & Back Safe.
